This year was one of the first times we spent alone as an immediate family, on New Years. Most holidays we have at least some family with us. So we when spend holidays with just the 8 of us, I always want to make sure that the girls have a great time with just our family. It is kind of nice, every once in a while.
This year, I went around and asked the girls to fill in this sentence... here are the answers we all came up with...
"New Years Eve is just not New Years Eve without..."
...Extended family was the #1 answer! But besides that, other answers were...
...Eating the gingerbread house!
...lots of yummy snacks like cheeseball and crackers, chips and salsa, 7 layer dip, etc.
...playing fun games as a family, like Family Fued.
...Rootbeer floats (or 7-Up and Peppermint Candy) for dessert!
...Counting down 'til midnight with the Space Needle... 10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1!!! Happy New Year! And then kissing your loved ones!
...And then playing some Apples to Apples (this is a tradition with extended family that my kids wanted to do... yeah, they are crazy! Good thing it is only once a year... sadly, it wasn't a very long game this year because I was exhausted.)
Although we missed hanging out with our extended family, we had a fun, relaxing celebration at home, ringing in the New Year!
