How many 2 year olds get to have a visit from the Tooth Fairy?? Well, Callie did! :)
It all started when we were in Spokane for Thanksgiving. It was late Saturday night and Grant and some of the girls were finishing up a movie. I heard a cry from the next room. I walked in to see Calyssa and the chair on the ground and she was bleeding really bad from her mouth. Grandpa and a couple of her older sisters told me that she had been standing on a chair and the entire chair fell backwards, with her on it, and that she had hit her head on the carpeted floor. First, I noticed her lip bleeding and thought she just had a fat lip. After Grant and I cleaned her up a bit, I noticed that she had bit all the way through her lip and into her chin and had left a cut on her chin. I began to worry. I talked to my sister in law, who works as a nurses aide in the hospital. She texted pictures to her Mom who is a nurse and she said that they probably wouldn't do much at the ER, since it was right on the lip line. (Riana had a similar cut at this age and we took her to the ER and they didn't do anything.) After the bleeding calmed down, I looked into her mouth again and noticed that her front tooth had jammed up into her gums and that the gum line between her front teeth was also cut. This worried me even more!! I started to panic... what if she loses her tooth and has a gap for 4+ years?? (Then I thought of the family in our ward whose 4 year old son had just died suddenly and all of a sudden, it didn't seem like such a big deal anymore.) Grant called a dentist from our ward back home and we sent him pictures via text message. He said to try to massage the tooth back down as close to the original spot as possible, to feed her only soft foods on Sunday, and then go to our dentist when we got home. So that is what we did. On Monday morning, I took her into the dentist. She was so happy that morning... she sang the whole way there... and the whole way home... it was so incredibly adorable!!!
"My 2 year old talked and sang the whole way to and from the dentist this morning... here are some of the things she said/sang, "This is so fun, just like a wolla toaster (roller coaster) or the Tars Wide (Cars Ride)..." "Dog says woof, tat (cat) says mouw (meow), and elephant goes toot {giggle, giggle}..." "I'm doh-ing (going) to the dentist with my Mommy, Angela, and I'm Towelly (Callie)..." "I love the dentist... he's my favite (favorite)... and I love my pwizes!!" "Look, Mommy, a seahawk! Follow that tar with the Seahawk!" Pretty happy girl for someone who has a fat lip and a crooked, very bruised gums and tooth (she fell backwards on a chair while we were in Spokane, biting through her lip onto her chin and jamming her front tooth up into her gums... poor baby!!)"
Here is what it looked like on Monday morning... she had quite a bit of bruising in her gums.
The dentist said that it was possible that is would fall out, or that it would heal and later get infected and have to be removed (which would be traumatic!), but that he thought the tooth would probably just seal back up and be just fine. I was relieved to hear that. Callie was so happy with the prizes they gave her! She has been to the dentist twice now... once for a chipped tooth (the same tooth), when she tripped over her own feet and hit her tooth on the cafeteria floor and now this, and both times she had a great time at the dentist. Dr. N and his staff were great with her! :)
Her last pictures with both of her two front teeth.
As you can see in this picture, the tooth continued to be wiggly and when that happens you just have to wiggle it with your tongue, right? Well, the next evening, the girls yelled, "Callie's mouth is bleeding again!" I wasn't too worried, after all, it had been bleeding off and on since she fell. But I looked over and her mouth was full of blood... then I got a glimpse of the gap in her two front teeth! My heart sunk! (We called the dentist and they said that there wasn't really anything they could do for a baby tooth falling out.) I was so sad!! Then I again thought about the perspective... it is only a tooth. It is okay. I am blessed for every day that I get to hold her in my arms. Plus, she looks pretty darn cute anyway.
We are all used to it now. My little toothless two year old. What is funny is that the girls pointed out that Aurora (my almost 6 year old) is the only one who hasn't lost a tooth or had a Tooth Fairy visit. (Sadly, it might be another year or more for her... my kids lose their teeth kind of late.)
The sisters were all jealous of the amount that the Tooth Fairy brought Calyssa... but I reminded them of the traumatic way that she lost her tooth and that she would most likely have to wait 4-5 years for it to grow back. They agreed! They all enjoyed watching how excited she was. :) Hopefully the next Tooth Fairy visit for this girl doesn't come for a few more years.

Thanks for sharing the little songs she sang and the way she pronounced the words. Super cute.
