A Big Surprise for Grant!!

Grant was chosen to sing the Tenor solos for the Messiah Sing-along (for the Multi Stake production.)  Grant's Mom really wanted to come, but wasn't sure she would be able to make it work.  She not only wanted to come, she wanted to bring her Mother especially, since she was a professional opera singer for many years and has sung the Soprano solos for the Messiah many, many times.  Well, she worked it out to be able to come and was texting me and calling me with all kinds of "excuses," like the girls left something at our house over Thanksgiving, and such.  It was hilarious because Grant did not suspect a thing.  That night, she texted me and said she was coming down the hallway.  I knew he was going to go change into his tux, so I followed him, with my phone camera ready.  Sadly, it shutoff, so I missed the very beginning of his surprise, when he said, "Unbelievable!!" in a very excited voice!

What is hilarious is that I could see them from the moment we turned the corner in the hallway, but it took him until he was face to face with them to realize what was happening!!  It was SO much fun to surprise him!!  I can't believe we were able to pull it off!  He had absolutely NO clue!!  Here is what followed the "Unbelievable!!"....  (This video is exactly 1 minute long.)

"Are you kidding me?  ...Did you know about this?  ...Oh my heck!  What a pleasant surprise!  ...That was not what I expected at all.  I was just walking and I didn't even... I was just going to get my tux on. ...You silly, silly girls!  Wow!  That was unexpected!"  (With a lot of laughing and smiling included, too!)

He was so happy, as I know it meant the world to him that they came!!  I loved seeing his reaction!  I still love watching this video over and over!  Fun times!

He did a great job on his solos, especially considering that he had been sick, including not being able to sing, for the 3 weeks leading up to it.  It was a miracle that he could sing at all.  He has always wanted to sing these tenor solos so it was an honor for him to be chosen!

It was a sing-a-long for all the chorus numbers.  I had the priviledge of singing next to his Grandma.  That was so fun!  I love her!  Some of the songs were kind of hard because I had never heard them before, so I just tried to listen to everyone around me, especially Grandma.  But I can see how it would get funner each time you went.  My favorite song was the Hallelujah Chorus because it was the one I was the most familiar with.

The church was decorated so beautifully!  There were a few beautifully painted scenes (including a really cool three level wooden scene, which our family had a small version of when I was a kid... it was amazing!) and many, many, many different nativity scenes that people brought in.

My favorites were all in the kids room... I guess I am just a kid at heart.  :)

I also loved this room dedicated to the Savior.  There was a very peaceful feeling in that room.

Afterwards, we went out to Dairy Queen with Grant's Mom and Grandma and my parents and brother, Tom, who also were sweet enough to come and support Grant also.

This first picture cracks me up... Grant took the picture so fast that Tommy and I were both still trying to make sure we didn't have any food in our teeth... LOL!!  We are a lot alike.  The other picture is better, but my Dad closed his eyes.  LOL!

It was a fun night... especially surprising Grant!  We are both thankful for the support of our families!!
