Ever since Calyssa/Callie was born, Aurora/Rori knew that
they were going to be best friends. Rori
loved just being around Callie and Callie loved her too. When Callie was only about a month or two,
Rori would grab her hand and say, “Come on, Lyssa, let’s play.” We, of course, told her that Callie was too
little to play with her, but Rori never gave up. She was very sweet with her and as soon as
Callie could even crawl, she started to follow Rori. Callie wanted to do everything Rori was
doing. Once when Rori’s dance class was
performing, Callie (14 months) crawled closer to the stage, stood up in a
random location, and started dancing, shaking back and forth. It was super cute! She totally stole the show! J
At about 17 months
old, Callie learned how to say “Rora.”
She would call all of her sister “Nah-nah” except “Rora.” She talked and talked, to even random
strangers, about “Rora.” Whenever someone
would come to our house, or we would go somewhere (like Grandma and Grandpa’s
house), Callie would tell them all about “Rora,” in her own little gibberish
language. We often wondered what Aurora
did that was so wonderful that Calyssa wanted to share with everyone. Every once in a while, it would be something
bad that “Rora” did and Calyssa would “tell” Mommy and Daddy about that too,
but it was in a very different tone of voice.
She started asking for “Rora.” As soon as she would wake up in the morning,
we would go to her crib to get her and she would say, “Where Rora?” During the girls’ dance recital at the end of
June, Calyssa went by herself to a babysitter.
When we picked her up, and got her all buckled in her seat, the first
thing she said was, “Where Rora?” When
we got home, she ran around the house, until she found her. Then she climbed up on the couch next to her
and they just snuggled there for about 10-15 minutes. It was the cutest thing ever!
About a month or two later, I dropped Aurora off at a
friend’s house to play and Calyssa was broken-hearted!! She started totally crying, put her hand
toward their house, and said, “Rora!!!
My Rora!!”, over and over (until I distracted her by singing her
favorite song, “The Wheels on the Bus.”)
It was so sweet!!
Once in a while, she even likes to tell Aurora what to
do. Once when Tierra was in the middle
of saying our family prayer, Aurora decided she would help Tierra by telling
her what to say, until Calyssa yelled, “Aurora, SHHH!!!” And then we all laughed! It was hilarious!!
Calyssa is quite confused by Aurora’s name, when we talk
about the princesses. I pointed to
Sleeping Beauty and said, “Look, here’s Princess Aurora.” Calyssa then pointed to another princess and
said, “And that’s me!!” Another time,
she pointed to each princess and named each one, one of her sisters’ names,
“That Rora, that Nina, that Tia, that Yiya, that Nah-nah, and that me!”
Aurora is always watching out for her baby sister. Just last month, Riana made 5 popsicles (that
is all the popsicle makers she could find) and gave one to Aurora. Aurora proceeded to take out a fork and
started scraping hers into a cup. I was about to get mad at her, as it looked
like she was just making a mess and/or ruining the popsicle, to me. Well, thank
goodness I waited. Because once she scraped off about half, she walked over to
her baby sister, who was the only one who didn't get a popsicle and said,
"Here Callie." It was so sweet!
