Adventures in Hiking

Grant's friend, Josh really wanted to go snow camping/hiking for his birthday, the first week of December. They both really love the snow but they had NO idea what they were getting themselves into! They had no problems driving up to the trailhead of Lower/Upper Lena Lakes, and they camped that night. The next day, it was extremely beautiful up there, but it was snowing A TON!!! They decided to cut their hike short, in order to face the snowy trail and the "rainy" trip home. (However, it wasn't a rainy trip home, that would've been a breeze compared to what they faced.) When they finally made it back to the trailhead, their cars were covered in a foot of snow and Josh's surburban, which they needed to clear the path down the road, wouldn't start. After praying for an hour, his surburban started. He had 4 wheel drive and chains and Grant followed in the tracks. It took them hours to drive what should've taken only 1-2. Grant, who is a very experienced snow driver, told me on the phone that he was pretty scared. Finally after only travelling 5 miles in one hour, Grant left his car in a safe place and went home to Bremerton with Josh. The next day, I went and picked him up. Then we went back and picked up his car. The roads were pretty slushy, by that point, but we made it safely home. :)
