Joy in the Journey

Normally, when I make cookies or anything like that, I am a total control freak! I measure the ingredients, crack the eggs, etc. and the girls get to pour in the ingredients. Since I had just listened to President Monson's talk about enjoying the journey, I decided to try really hard to fight against my instincts and let the girls have control. I let them measure out almost all the ingredients and they each cracked an egg (into a separate bowl, which we removed the excess shell that fell in, before pouring it into the main bowl.) They did spill some flour and such so we had to clean a little more but it was okay. The world didn't stop when the flour was spilled or an egg shell ended up in the bowl. I'm sure my girls had so much more fun and developed more confidence then with a hovering, anxious Mother. It will be a great memory and hopefully I can learn to always enjoy the journey. :)

I really need to take President Monson's advice in situations like that and with stressful situations too, like adding another kiddo to the mix, try to enjoy the journey, even if it's hard sometimes. I bet your girls had even more of a blast because they got to do it themselves!

Looks like they had so much fun and I loved what Pres Monson said about finding joy in the journey...all too often I am so worried about getting things done quickly and moving on to the next task! Thanks for the reminder :)

Fun! I'm sure they enjoyed eating the fruits of their labor even more because they got to be part of the process :) Ella gets excited about baking with me now because SHE gets to be the only one to measure and pour! As for everything else....she complains...."I never get to be first!" Poor little one - it's so hard for me to keep track!
