My first experience attending a Caucus

First of all, I posted a new post this post and another new post today (2-18) but they showed up earlier because I started them a few days ago. So make sure and check down about 5 posts to see some cute pictures of the girls!! :)

Most of you probably know that I am a Mitt Romney supporter and despite his suspension of the race, I decided to attend the Caucus anyway. I have spent the last several weeks researching each and every candidate (except one- Ron Paul.) The Caucus was a really interesting experience for me. Sadly, it wasn't as organized as I would've expected nor was there as many people attending, as I expected. It is sad because the caucus makes up 50% of the Republican Primary vote. Despite my disappointments, I was able to have some really interesting discussions. We really didn't discuss who we were voting for, but rather what issues were important to us. I talked to one man who said he was a Democrat voting for Ron Paul. However, when we discussed the issues, he would've voted for everything conservative except the war in Iraq. I found this so strange. Why would you vote based on one issue? Anyway, when we were discussing the issue of gun control, a woman who was voting for Ron Paul also, brought up an excellent point. She said that her husband was in the military and when he was gone to Iraq, she liked having the protection of a gun. Why should we protect our military but leave their families defenseless, while they are gone? Anyway, I really enjoyed my experience at the Republican Caucus. Come to find out, my Mom, my Dad, my brother Chris, my brother Tom, my sister Celestia, and I were all chosen as delegates to go to the County Caucus! I thought that was so awesome, especially considering that my brother Joe isn't old enough, my sister Liz lives in a different state, and my brother Dan works graveyard shifts and so he was sleeping. Our family will definitely be well represented!! :) Half of us, signed up to be delegates for Mitt Romney and half of us, signed up to be for John McCain (we wanted to make sure he would beat Huckabee.) Anyway, I hope that I can go to the Caucus every 4 years now. It was very educational.
