I've Got the Munchies
Okay, somebody help! Whenever I am doing good at working out, I get the munchies between meals SO bad!! I've heard that your body tries to keep itself the same weight. I've also heard that you get cravings really bad when you are about to lose weight. Then throw in the fact that I am still breastfeeding Aurora a ton! Anyway, I need some helpful hints on how you keep from giving in! One thing I do is I don't buy anything (really bad) that I know is a weakness of mine. Also, I don't bake much because that is a weakness too. But I find myself snacking between meals, which I normally don't do, on things like graham crackers, fruit snacks, etc. I am working hard on the exercise end and I just don't want to sabotage it with the eating. Please help me!! :)

I've heard on The Biggest Loser to chew gum when you get the munchies. Give it a shot.
Yah, drinking water helps. Sometimes I find that when I get the munchies I am sometimes just really thirsty. I am so proud of you for working out. Keep up the great work! Doesn't it feel FABULOUS!?
Try drinking Protein shakes after working out. That helps as well!
I always try to eat a little protein kind of what Jenny G said. I also know from my personal experience and have read that when you are really tired mid-day that you should eat some protein. My favorite choice is a handful of almonds. Yes,they do have a lot of fat, but they are healthy fat. If you eat a lot of protein it is supposed to cause you to not crave sugar as much. Another reason you could be having the munchies is a yeast die off (I know that sounds crazy) but it is great to try pro-biotics when that happens too.
I really struggle with the love/hate relationship with food. You sound like you are doing great!
You definitely are hungrier the more you work out and speed up your metabolism. You should plan ahead some healthy snacks with a balance of protein and carbs so you don't give in when you see those leftover m&ms like I just did!! My favorites are cottage cheese and pears or peaches or applesauce. Or Zone (nutrition) bars or string cheese and an apple. Just some thoughts!
Grapefruit and banana together is super filling and so yummy! Scoop up cottage cheese with baked potato chips for a real treat! Don't forget those yummy apple and cheese sandwiches I told you about. They are so fun and delicious. Food has to be something you enjoy or you won't eat it. There are so many healthy alternatives to regular junk food these days. Stock up on those and your sure to feel good about snacking!
These are all good suggestions. I think it's better to have a healthy, low calorie snack than to tough it out. When I get too hungry I tend to overeat at the next meal. I don't have a problem with cravings in the daytime but in the evening after dinner I have a really hard time with them. Anyone have any suggestions for me?
I agree with Cami. Almonds are the trick. I haven't been working out but I got that hint from my neighbor and it works great. Buy it all seperate at Costco and put in little ziploc bags, unsalted almonds, craisins, blueberries, cherries...healthy trail mix. I always have the little bags in my car and my kids eat them all the time now as well. Great healthy snack and I feel way better during the day....I'm still eating my chocolate but I'm not getting the highs and lows anymore!
I guess I've been a bit busy lately, but I'm having fun catching up on your blog! I always thought your pictures with short hair were extra beautiful, so that is my vote...or medium with some sidebangs (I think we have similar face shapes so I think we look good in the same cut!) Snacks...I agree with the low-cal protein that fills you up! It has always worked for me, and I just read that eating protein before eating something sweet causes you to feel satisfied, so you can enjoy a little bit of that something sweet and and then stop, without having the urge to keep eating it!
