I was given a Tender Mercy!

Back when I had "the flu," Grant and I were so, so worried that one of our girls would get it. It was just such a nasty "flu" (the one described in the post about 6 or so down.) Well, 2 weeks went by and no one else got it! I was thinking how amazing and rare that was, when I started seeing reports on the news about salmonella poisoning through peanut butter products. Two days ago, I said to Grant, "Wouldn't that be funny if it wasn't the flu at all, but salmonella poisoning?" (Okay, not funny but I always use that word for some reason.) Grant looked up the symptoms and I had all except one! I wasn’t totally convinced until today when I looked up the list of things that were recalled and realized that I had eaten not one but two of the items on the list, sometime during the few days before I got sick (I don’t remember exactly when.) I quickly grabbed the remaining (Austin brand) crackers with peanut butter in the center, and Grant’s protein bars to throw in the garbage. I couldn’t believe I didn’t take this more serious before! As I read all about it, I started thinking. Here I had a potential threat to my children’s lives, right here in our home. I couldn’t help but think that if it was one of my daughters who ate the crackers that I ate, maybe the outcome wouldn’t have been so good. Or if Grant wouldn’t have made me drink so much Gatorade, maybe I would’ve ended up in the hospital. Or if one of the girls would’ve eaten some crackers before today, when I took them out, they would’ve gotten sick unnecessarily. Or if… Or if… Or if… There were just so many ways this couldn’t gone so differently and been so terrible! I called my physician’s office and they told me to watch the girls over the next day or so and if they even feel nauseated, I should take them straight to the hospital. Wow! I couldn’t help but be so grateful for how it turned out. I truly feel that the Lord is guiding our lives!! I am so glad that it was me that got sick. I am so glad that we are all fine. Wow, how scary and yet what a miracle!

I'm so glad that you are okay and that you are the only one who got sick. Somebody was watching out for you all.

I no longer eat sprouts. Eldon used to do research for a tech company. Apparently, sprouts are worse than raw chicken for e-coli. Who knew? I certainly never would have guessed the risks of those Austin crackers! I'm glad you are well and healthy.

This reminds me of the song...Count your Blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings, see what God hath done. Your family is truly blessed.
